Step 5 of 8

Put the settings file where Claude reads it.

A settings file sitting in one chat only helps that chat, but pasted into the project's instructions it's read at the start of every conversation in the Burstows project.

Do this.

  1. Open the finished settings file in the panel beside the chat and copy all of it.

There is a copy button at the top of the panel. Or click into it, select all, and copy.

  2. Go to the Burstows project page. Click Projects in the menu on the left, then Burstows.

  3. Click Set project instructions, paste the settings file in, and click Save instructions.

  4. Keep a copy on your computer as well.

Download it from the panel as a Word document and save it in a folder called Burstows Claude. Cowork, in the next step, works from that folder.

  5. Test it. Start a new chat inside the project and ask: In one paragraph, tell me what you know about Burstows and how I like things written.

If the answer reads like your settings file, it is working.

Roughly what you will see. Claude changes its screens often. The words on the buttons mostly stay, so follow the words.

Keeping it current.

When Claude makes the same mistake twice, open the instructions, add one line, and save. That's the whole of the maintenance. If the file hasn't changed in three months, my guess is it isn't being read closely enough, rather than that it's finished.
